Background of the Study
Social exclusion remains a critical issue affecting persons with disabilities, leading to adverse psychological outcomes (Ibrahim, 2023). In Ido, traditional stigmas and systemic barriers have perpetuated the marginalization of disabled individuals, exacerbating feelings of isolation and low self-esteem (Okeke, 2024). Recent studies highlight that exclusionary practices in education, employment, and social interactions significantly impair mental health (Ekwueme, 2023). Moreover, the cultural context of Ido contributes to entrenched biases, limiting access to resources and support (Umeh, 2025). Investigating the intersection of social exclusion and psychological well-being is essential to develop inclusive policies (Adeniran, 2023). This research examines the complex dynamics that contribute to social exclusion and the subsequent psychological ramifications for persons with disabilities, aiming to offer evidence-based recommendations for community integration and improved mental health outcomes (Chukwu, 2024).
Statement of the Problem
Despite growing awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities, social exclusion remains prevalent in Ido Local Government Area (Anyanwu, 2023). The persistent stigmatization and limited access to social and economic opportunities contribute to significant psychological distress among disabled individuals (Nwachukwu, 2024). The lack of robust empirical data on these impacts further complicates the development of targeted interventions (Ifeanyi, 2023). This study addresses the urgent need to systematically investigate how social exclusion affects the psychological health of persons with disabilities in the community.
